Project overview
I was 1 of 6 candidates selected for a Ministry of Textiles government grant to develop a discharge-dye method for ikat that inverts the traditional resist process; dyeing yarns dark, tying them, then chemically discharging colour from the untied sections. This reduces tying effort, material cost, and labour while producing predominantly white and tonal ikats with soft, harmonized contrast, offering a more efficient alternative for the Indian handloom sector.
